Webinar Developer — Contract Position

People's Law School, a leader in public legal education in British Columbia, is looking to hire a lawyer to lead the development, promotion, and delivery of our public legal education webinar program. This role suits an individual with strong project management and communication skills, experience running virtual events (or a strong interest in developing this skill set), and a passion for access to justice and public legal education.

People's Law School is a non-profit society dedicated to making the law accessible to everyone. Our vision is a province where people have the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to resolve everyday legal matters.

As Webinar Developer, you will work independently and with our team to:

Program Strategy & Planning

  • Create a strategy for our public legal education webinar program, and plan, coordinate, and execute seven to ten webinars per year.

  • Conduct research to identify webinar opportunities and topics of interest to the public and to organizations that help them.

  • Create and maintain a webinar schedule.

Speaker Recruitment & Preparation

  • Recruit and work with volunteer speakers to develop webinars.

  • Collaborate with speakers and the People's Law School team to develop webinar theme and outline of questions and prepare a slide deck for webinar.

  • Conduct pre-webinar planning calls and virtual meetings with speakers.

  • Maintain a database of speakers and subject matter experts.

Webinar Delivery & Moderation

  • Moderate webinars, including introducing and interviewing volunteer speakers, summarizing key points for the audience, and fielding questions submitted live through Q&A.

Marketing & Promotion

  • With team, develop newsletter and social media promotional material.

Post-Webinar Follow-Up

  • Prepare show notes from the webinar with pinpoint to post on the website alongside the webinar recording.

  • With team, prepare and conduct post-webinar surveys and polls.

Program Evaluation & Reporting

  • Measure the success of each webinar and report results to management.

  • With team, develop benchmark criteria to measure the effectiveness of the webinar program and implement improvements as required.

Team Meetings

  • In addition to items previously mentioned, participate in team meetings and correspondence related to the delivery of the webinar program.

Qualifications

  • Law degree from an accredited law school, and current or eligible for membership in the Law Society of British Columbia.

  • Minimum two years' experience as a practicing lawyer.

Communication & Presentation Skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Experience or comfort moderating live, on-camera events, including interviewing speakers and thinking on your feet.

Webinar & Event Experience

  • Experience planning and producing webinars or other virtual events is an asset.

  • Comfortable working with webinar/video conferencing technology (e.g., Zoom).

  • Experience with event marketing and promotion, including social media, is an asset.

Work Style & Organization

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects at once.

  • Comfortable working from home.

  • Ability to build relationships with volunteer speakers and subject matter experts.

Values & Interest

  • Interest in access to justice and public legal education.

Term

This is a contract position, with the possibility of renewal. The initial term runs from the date of hire until March 31, 2027, with the possibility of renewal for a further term from April 1, 2027, to March 31, 2028. This is a remote, work-from-home position.

Compensation

This position is paid at a flat rate equivalent to $60,000–$80,000 per year depending on experience, pro-rated based on the length of the contract term. For example, a contract beginning November 1, 2026 and running to March 31, 2027 (a five-month term) would be paid at a pro-rated rate of approximately $25,000–$33,333.
