Real questions, plain answers: three new Q&As

June 12, 2026

We've published three new Q&As this month, each one rooted in a question a real British Columbian is asking right now — about a landmark court ruling, workplace rights, and personal privacy.

Our three new pages answer these questions in plain language:

  • My ex spent years controlling my life; do I have any legal options? explains a May 2026 Supreme Court of Canada decision recognizing a new civil claim for intimate partner violence — one that covers coercive control, not just physical harm. We explain what the three-part test requires, what damages a court can award, and where to find support alongside legal advice.

  • Do I have a right to work from home? walks through what a recent BC Court of Appeal decision means for workers in ongoing remote arrangements — including when an abrupt return-to-office order can amount to constructive dismissal — and what to do if you want to make the case for flexibility.

  • Does my insurer have the right to see my genetic test results? explains the protections in Canada's Genetic Non-Discrimination Act: insurers cannot require you to take a genetic test or share results you already have, and doing so is a criminal offence.

These pages join close to 200 Q&As now available on our site — all written for real people dealing with real situations, in language that's clear and direct. Browse all Q&As.
