Consumer and Debt Law relaunched as a wikibook

October 17, 2018

We're delighted to relaunch a tried and true resource, Consumer and Debt Law, as a Clicklaw Wikibook. This problem-solving manual for advocates and other legal professionals helping clients with consumer or debt problems is now fully updated, fully online, and also available by print-on-demand.

Front cover of Consumer and Debt Law manual

Published originally by Legal Services Society, the manual covers over 45 topics on problems people experience with consumer purchases, contracts, borrowing money, and being in debt. Each section includes sample client problems, a summary of the relevant law, a recap of information needed from the client, and suggestions for solving the client's problem. The information is current to August 2018.

We are pleased to relaunch the manual as a Clicklaw Wikibook, in collaboration with Courthouse Libraries BC. As a wikibook:

  • The online version is fully linked. Link from the text of the manual directly to legislation, forms, and even cases on point.

  • The manual is mobile friendly. Pages are responsive to the device you use. Or, by downloading an EPUB version, you can save a mobile-friendly version for reading offline.

  • A print-on-demand copy is available. If you want to have a printed copy, it takes only moments to order a print-on-demand copy.

Many thanks to Alison Ward, staff lawyer at Community Legal Assistance Society, for completing the legal review of this key resource.

This website explains in a general way the law that applies in British Columbia, Canada. The information is not intended as legal advice. The cases we refer to reflect real experiences, but names have been changed. See our full disclaimer.
